The Battle of Endor was a huge battle that took place on and above the moon of Endor between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
Prelude[]
Emperor Palpatine deliberately alerted the Alliance to Restore the Republic's bothan spies of the second Death Star's existence and that he would be overseeing the final stages of it's construction personally. Putting together a plan, Palpatine organised for a shield generator to be based on the forest moon of Endor in order to protect his new weapon. Although the Alliance believed the weapon was incomplete and the station appeared incomplete the superlaser was actually operational. In addition, Sidious hid his fleet of Star Destroyers on the far side of the system.
The Alliance planned an attack which following the rescue of Han Solo on Tatooine, the rebels took action on. Han Solo led a strike team of pathfinders to the forest moon where they encountered a pair of Scout Troopers and they took off on speeder bikes. The rebels managed to stop all the Scout Troopers before their presence on the moon was revealed to the shield bunker.
Han and his team were captured by the ewoks of Bright Tree Village and eventually they became honorary members of the tribe. The ewoks agreed to help the Alliance the following day when they attacked the bunker.
Lando Calrissian and Wedge Antilles were to lead the attack on the Death Star with Admiral Ackbar in charge at the command centre - Home One. The entire rebel fleet entered hyperspace and arrived at Endor.
The Battle[]
At the bunker, Paploo stole speeder bike which distracted all but one of the Scout Troopers on guard which chased the ewok into the forest. Han and his forces entered the bunker but were surrounded by the Stormtroopers of the Emperor's legion which were waiting to trap them.
Lando and the fleet arrived and discovered the trap that had been set for them as the Star Destroyers arrived to occupy them.
When the Imperial forces took the captured rebels outside, the Ewoks and the droids came to the rescue and a large skirmish began. AT-ST walker entered the fray and Han, Leia and R2-D2 ran to the blast door of the bunker to try and open it. R2-D2 was shot by a Stormtrooper which forced Han to start manually opening it. The Bounty Hunter Jas Emari targeted Leia while she was at the door but decided against killing her even though the bounty on her head was extremely large.
The rebels successfully destroyed the Devastator and the Executor in the space battle above but were unable to make any assault on the Death Star due to the shields and the superlaser took out many of their capital ships.
Luke and Vader dueled aboard the Death Star in the Emperor's throne room while he watched on. After a long duel, Luke managed to cut off Vader's hand and despite the Emperor's requests to finish him off and take his father's place as Dark Lord of the Sith, Luke threw his lightsaber aside, telling the Emperor that he would never turn to the dark side and that he was a Jedi like his father before him. Enraged, the Emperor started blasting force lightning at Skywalker while Vader recovered and watched on. Vader was redeemed as Anakin Skywalker once again and grabbed his master, he then throw him down the reactor shaft. The lightning blasts that had been aimed at Luke had been redirected to Anakin due to his betrayal and the dying Jedi watched as the Emperor fell down the shaft with lightning still blasting out of his fingertips. Sidious exploded in a blast of energy and was dead, so the Sith was destroyed and Anakin had fulfilled the Prophecy of the Chosen One.
The rebels and Ewoks managed to infiltrate the bunker and blow up the shield generator which allowed the Millennium Falcon and the squadrons of starfighters to enter the vents inside the Death Star. Antilles and Calrissian fired shots at the reactor core and then took off back out the vents.
Luke took the body of Anakin, who had died from his force lightning wounds, on a shuttle and escaped just as the Death Star began to explode. Antilles shot out of the main vent with plenty of time to spare but Calrissian in the Millennium Falcon was just in front of the coming explosion. The Falcon only just made it out of the battle station as it exploded.
Admiral Rae Sloane ordered a retreat and the remains of the Imperial Fleet jumped to hyperspace, ending the battle.
Aftermath[]
A year later, the New Republic finally defeated the Galactic Empire once and for all during the Battle of Jakku.
