The Clone Wars was a major galactic conflict.

History Edit

The first battle of the clone wars

The Wars had their origin in the Separatist Crisis, where a large group of star systems and their representatives in the Republic Senate, seceded from the Galactic Republic. They believed the Republicwas inherently corrupt and wanted to create a parallel government, the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

After several years of political turmoil and localized conflicts, the Clone Wars erupted in full with the Battle of Geonosis, where the Republic military attempted to invade the planet Geonosis and arrest the leaders of the Confederacy, which were gathered there. The plan failed and the Confederacy managed to mobilize, allowing its leaders to escape. War was not prevented and the galaxy would be embroiled in countless battles between the two governments.

The Galactic Republic utilized both regular militia soldiers, as well as the pan-galactic Grand Army of the Republic, an army made up of Clone Troopers, genetically identical soldiers made from the genes of the bounty hunter Jango Fett. The Separatists utilized armies of droid soldiers and their own organic militias.

Unbeknownst to the general population and the soldiers fighting on the frontlines, both factions were secretly controlled by the Sith Lords. Count Dooku, secretly Darth Tyranus, controlled the Confederacy, while his master, Darth Sidious, controlled the Republic as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.

After almost four years of combat, the Sith's final part of their plan came to fruition. The main goal of the war was always to scatter the Jedi Knights and thin their numbers, as they were pressed into service as Generals for the Republic. Having overseen the death of Count Dooku, Darth Sidious convinced the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker that the Jedi were corrupt and part of the problems plaguing the galaxy. Having revealed his true identity to the Jedi, Sidious survived an assassination attempt by Jedi Master Mace Windu, by Skywalker cutting the Master's sword arm as he attempted to strike the Chancellor down. Seduced by the prospect of power found in the Dark Side of the Force, Anakin Skywalker, now dubbed Darth Vader, moved with his personal soldiers to kill the Jedi left in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Sidious activated Order 66, an executive order transmitted to clone troops all over the galaxy to kill their Jedi commanders. With these two acts, the Jedi Order was almost wiped out.

Following the massacre in the Temple, Skywalker was ordered to head to Mustafar, where the leadership of the Confederacy was to be found. As the Confederacy had outlived its usefulness, their leaders needed to be removed. Skywalker slaughtered the Separatist leaders and their bodyguards and deactivated their droid armies across the galaxy.

Back on Coruscant, Sidious elaborated on the conspiracy the Jedi made against him and the Republic, to justify his actions to the Senate. He then declared that to ensure the continued safety of the Republic, it would need to be reorganized into an Empire, thus creating the First Galactic Empire amidst great applause by the majority of Senators.

Aftermath Edit

Despite the Confederacy losing control of their droid armies, several holdouts continued to fight the Galactic Empire for several years after the official end of the Wars. Additionally, the Republic-trained guerilla fighters present on many Separatist worlds, would continue to fight their new oppressors, the forces of the Galactic Empire. These groups eventually coalesced into the Alliance to Restore the Republic, an organization led by the Imperial Senators Mon Mothma and Bail Organa.

Decades after the collapse of the Galactic Empire, Separatist concerns were still running through the political circles in the New Republic. Attempting to appease former Separatist worlds, the New Republic enacted several reforms to decentralize power, as well as opening up trade relations with worlds that were still undecided, 50 years after the end of the Wars.
