Darth Vader's armor was the black armor worn by Captain-in-Chief Darth Vader after his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar. It included life support systems to help Vader to breath and stay alive. While the armor did it's job well, Vader was not as mobile as he was when he wore Jedi robes. It did however help him with intimidation and cyborg factor as his mask was seen as an icon of fear across the galaxy. Due to the claustrophobic nature of the suit, Vader had multiple pressurised meditation chambers where he could take the helmet off and survive.
History[]
Scientist Cylo helped Emperor Palpatine design the suit and therefore had some control over it later when he betrayed the Empire and needed to stop Vader. When Palpatine found his new apprentice dying he had Cylo create the suit and managed to save him.
Vader was forced to adjust and it took him a while to get used to his new suit. Once he got used to the restrictive mobility he also realised he had to change his fighting pattern with his lightsaber.
Vader wore the suit up until his death on the second Death Star where Luke Skywalker took his armor and body and burned them on the forest moon of Endor.
His charred helmet resurfaced years later when Kylo Ren asked his grandfather for guidance.

By 35 ABY, the helmet was transferred to the Allegiant General Enric Pryde's Star Destroyer Steadfast, where it was later found by the Jedi Rey during her quest for the Wookiee Chewbacca's belongings previously confiscated by First Order stormtroopers. Rested upon an obsidian pillar within Kylo Ren's suite on board the vessel in orbit of Kijimi, Vader's charred helmet was disturbed when the pillar was shattered by Rey's lightsaber during her duel with Kylo Ren on the Steadfast and Kijimi, thus allowing the dark side adept at Kijimi City to discover Rey's physical location.
