The E-wing escort starfighter first appeared in the 1991–1992 Dark Horse Comics series Dark Empire. The E-wing was created by Tom Veitch and illustrated by Cam Kennedy. The E-wing has also appeared in numerous Legends literature and media. The E-wing later appeared in the 2017 non-canon LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures episode "The Embersteel Blade".
