Exegol was a dark desert planet located within the Unknown Regions. According to legend, it was known as the hidden world of the Sith.
Description[]
A dark and barren planet, Exegol was a desolate wasteland. Extremely dry to the point that the dust particles rubbed into the atmosphere and created massive static discharges. There was a cloud of red gas and dust which had formed in the atmosphere which made landing on the planet difficult due to a lack of vision. There were massive fissures carved deep into the crust of Exegol, dug by Sith loyalists trying the reach a transportative vergence which they believed was hidden in the rock.

The hidden Sith-world of Exegol was founded years before the rise of the Galactic Republic. Sith cultists massed on the planet to worship and serve the Sith. Sith loyalists dug into the rock trying to find a transportative vergence which they believed was hidden there, building the large crevices and fissures in the planet. Two Sith wayfinders were made that could show users the way to Exegol.

The Jedi Master Luke Skywalker tried and failed to find Exegol
When the Galactic Republic rose to power, they quarantined the other Sith worlds - Malachor, Moraband, Ziost, Jaguada and Rhelg but Exegol remained a secret due to it's location in the Unknown Regions. When the Galactic Empire and Darth Sidious came to power following the Clone Wars, Sidious became obsessed with locating Exegol and it became a key part of his master plans. Although mostly hidden, there were old Jedi writings that spoke of the planet and Luke Skywalker discovered them following the defeat of the Emperor and the Empire at the Battle of Endor. Luke attempted to find Exegol during his search for Force-relics but was unsuccessful.
Seeking to unlock the secrets of immortality, his underlings began to experiment with cloning technology in a bid to extend his lifespan. Sidious also proceeded to modernize the ancient shipyards, making them highly automated so the construction of a fleet of Xyston-class Star Destroyers was underway by the time of the Galactic Civil War.
Sidious remained on Exegol after his defeat to continue his plans
Darth Sidious oversaw the Contingency's execution and the rise of the First Order
Sometime following his defeat above Endor, Darth Sidious returned in some form at Exegol and began to pull the strings on the galaxy again. He allowed the creation of the First Order to occupy the New Republic and the Resistance while creating Snoke to mess with Luke and his new Jedi Order. He was very physically weak and stayed in the Sith Citadel on the planet. The Sith loyalists continued to construct the Sith Eternal fleet, a massive fleet of warships. With each Xyston-class Star Destroyer armed with an axial superlaser capable of destroying entire planets, the Sith fleet would spearhead the Sith reconquest of the galaxy in order to establish a new Sith Empire, the Final Order.
Kylo Ren uncovered his grandfather's wayfinder on Mustafar
Rey traveled to Exegol to confront Darth Sidious, guiding the Resistance
Rey, with the aid of Ben Solo, confronted and defeated Sidious
Following the death of Snoke, Kylo Ren found one of the wayfinders on Mustafar and found Exegol, confronting Sidious. Rey went on her own mission to find the other Sith wayfinder and eventually led the entire Resistance to Exegol where the Battle of Exegol took place. Sidious was finally defeated and the Final Order fell in one swift blow.
