Jira was an old woman who lived on Tatooine, selling food.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Jira was born on Tatooine prior to the Invasion of Naboo. At some point in her life, she went to Mos Espa and built a small stand next to Gragra and a cafe. She sold many foods, including pallies. Even though Jira was poor, she was jolly. She kept her hair in loose braids. Jira depended on her old and fused cooling unit. Between 41 BBY and 32 BBY, her cooling unit became useless. A young slave called Anakin Skywalker offered to give her his Podracing winnings and search for a new cooling unit. After this incident, Jira and Anakin became good friends.
The Invasion of Naboo[]
In 32 BBY, Anakin met Qui-Gon Jinn, Padme Amidala, and Jar Jar Binks and they visited Jira's stand. Jira told Ani that her "bones are aching" and that there would be a sandstorm soon. As Skywalker and his friends then went off as Jira cleaned her stand.
Later, Anakin was freed after Jinn betted with his owner, Watto, that Anakin would win the Podrace. Anakin was finally able to give Jira his savings to buy the cooling unit. Jira accepted and asked him to give her a hug. Jira said that Anakin was the "kindest boy in the galaxy." She told him that she'd miss him and told him to take care and waved goodbye, without knowing that a probe droid passed her. Lukily, Jinn was able to destroy it minutes later.
