The Krayt dinosaurs were large, carnivorous reptiles that were found on the desert planet of Tatooine.
History[]
They came in two subspecies and, despite their fierceness, were hunted for the precious pearls found in their bodies. The Krayt dragon also has two subspecies; the smaller and more common canyon krayt, and the larger greater krayt. At the time of the Invasion of Naboo, one krayt dragon had taken up residence in the Laguna Caves on Tatooine, in which rescue teams for the Boonta Eve Classic did not dare to go. During the Galactic Civil War, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi mimicked the sound of a krayt dragon to ward off a group of Tusken Raiders in order to save a young Luke Skywalker and his droids, C-3PO and R2-D2. Later in the war, Imperial and Rebel forces on Tatooine managed to capture and tame a small amount of Krayt dragons, along with Rancors, to attack enemy bases.
