During the reveal of the existence of a planet-killing battle station, General Jan Dodonna pointed out that a ship had to be at least the size of a Mandator-class in order to contain a superlaser. Furthermore, he pointed out that even a laser of that size still wouldn't be able to destroy a whole planet.
