Resistance

The Resistance was an organisation founded by Leia Organa who created the small force when she discovered evidence of the First Order coming to power from the remnants of the Galactic Empire after 29 years of peace under the New Republic's rule.

Since the New Republic had initiated the Military disarmament act and the senate had discovered that Leia was the daughter of Darth Vader, she created the Resistance to counter the First Order.

When the First Order finished constructing Starkiller Base, it fired at the Hosnian system where the Galactic Senate was housed and the entire system was destroyed along with the New Republic starfleet. Fighters from Leia's resistance managed to destroy the superweapon afterwards.

History

Following the fall of the Galactic Empire at Jakku, the New Republic became the governing force of the galaxy but the remnants of the Galactic Empire formed as the First Order in the Unknown Regions unbeknownst to the peaceful Republic. When Leia Organa discovered evidence that the First Order was coming to power, Carise Sindian exposed her as the daughter of Darth Vader and she was unable to run for the role of "First Senator". Leia decided to create her own military group with the few people she trusted and called it the Resistance.

At first the Resistance was only small and even though the New Republic put up with them, they in no way backed the fighter faction. Some senators secretly funded Leia and she was able to set up a base on the planet of D'Qar. The Resistance was able to investigate First Order activity and even engaged them in combat a couple of times.

Poe Dameron and Black Squadron were sent on a mission by General Organa to locate Lor San Tekka who knew of her brother Luke Skywalker's location. Agent Terex and Captain Phasma launched their own mission in search of the old man as Supreme Leader Snoke wanted to find Luke for his own reasons. The two groups crossed paths many times and fought each other. Eventually Commander Malarus of the First Order intervened and destroyed all of Terex's pirate forces as he had acted against orders from Phasma.

Organa sent Dameron to Jakku where Lor San Tekka was found. Tekka gave Poe the segment of the map as Kylo Ren and the First Order forces arrived. The map was given to BB-8 and Poe was captured by the First Order forces. A stormtrooper known as FN-2187 defected and helped Poe escape and after crash landing a TIE fighter on Jakku, Poe returned to D'Qar. BB-8 made it to Takodana with the help of the Stormtrooper, (now calling himself Finn), a scavenger named Rey as well as Han Solo and Chewbacca. The Resistance was alerted by GA-97, a spy in Maz Kanata's castle, that BB-8 was on Takodana.

The First Order used the Starkiller superweapon to destroy the Hosnian system and the New Republic Senate and Resistance members sent a team to Takodana to retrieve BB-8. Poe Dameron led the attack and they fought the First Order forces who were also after the droid. Kylo captured Rey and took her to Starkiller Base. Leia arrived with ground reinforcements who faced off Stormtroopers on the ground. Eventually when the First Order withdrew from the planet, the Resistance members returned to D'Qar.

Finn was able to help the Resistance form a plan to attack Starkiller Base, knowing the D'Qar was the next target for the superweapon. Han Solo took the Millennium Falcon with Chewbacca and Finn and entered the planet-converted superweapon at lightspeed to get through the shields. The ground team rescued Rey and disabled the shields as Poe Dameron and the X-wings arrived and attacked Starkiller's thermal oscillator. Han and the team decided to use explosives to blow a hole in the oscillator to aid the air assault who were busy fighting TIE fighters. The Resistance sent troops to one of the planet bases and they fought Snowtroopers and Stormtroopers on the surface. Inside the oscillator, Kylo Ren faced his father Han Solo and impaled him with his lightsaber. Chewbacca detonated the explosives and then went to get the Millennium Falcon. Rey and Finn used Skywalker's lightsaber to face off Kylo Ren outside in the snowy forest and were eventually split up by a rift in the ground as Poe Dameron entered the oscillator and destroyed it from the inside. The Resistance members escaped as Starkiller Base exploded.

Leia sent Rey aboard the Millennium Falcon with Chewbacca and R2-D2 to Ahch-To where the finished map led them and she found Luke Skywalker there.
