The Tarkin Initiative was a group within the Advanced Weapons Research division of the Galactic Empire. It was founded originally by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin and was continued after his death at the Battle of Yavin. The division was responsible for the creation of both the first and second Death Stars.
