- "From now on, failure will have consequences."
- ― Wilhuff Tarkin
Wilhuff Tarkin was a Human male military officer and later bureaucrat who served the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire in turn. Starting out as a member of the Judicial Forces, the Clone Wars would see him commissioned as a Captain and later Admiral in the Republic Navy thanks to his backing of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Rewarded for his support with the position of Moff and later Grand Moff, Governor Tarkin acted as the regional administrator of the Outer Rim and helped the Imperial Forces harry insurgents, often working together with Lord Darth Vader, Grand Admiral Thrawn and Admiral Rampart; all the while also keeping an eye on his pet project, Director Orson Krennic's Death Star, and even supporting the program from Sentinel Base. After being given command of the battle station and uncovering the rebel base with the aid of the Emperor's Fist, the Grand Moff attempted to obliterate Yavin 4, but perished in the Death Star's subsequent destruction.
